MFN
apparently stands for the Middle of F*cking Nowhere. It couldn't
have described it any better ! Arriving at 6:45 having been caught
in some horrendous traffic on the M1, Dave unloaded the bikes
from the van and proceeded to show off his new paintwork by Neardeath-X
and some tremendous yellow, yes YELLOW tyres from Tomahawk |
|
| The
arrival of the Dave Coates Stunt show was to attempt to break
the unofficial World Donut Record currently held by Gary Rothwell.
20 donuts in only one minute ! Following this, Dave was also providing
a stunt show for the massive crowd at the MFN. This venue is a
known local biker haunt on a Wednesday evening and the numbers
there did not disappoint. |
|
With
the bikes out of the van, Dave spent approximately 15 minutes
scuffing the tyres before the World Record attempt. The shiny
yellow, yes you read it right again, YELLOW
tyres were now sporting some nice black stripes down the middle.
And, they even left yellow stripes on the road surface where he
had been practicing. |
| |
The
crowd gathered around the arena where the record was to be attempted,
and were joined by the owner of sponsor firm Neardeath-X and close
friend of Dave, Wayne Kershaw of Men and Motors fame, who, as
ever, provided his own inimitable form of running commentary.
Not to be missed ! Several practice donuts later, Dave was ready
to attempt to break the World Record for number of donuts in one
minute. |
|
The
timing and commentary was provided by the owners of Extreme
Machines whose band would also be
providing some excellent live entertainment inside the nightclub
later on that evening. The scene was set, the crowd were in place
and the cameras loaded with film ready to capture the moment Dave
Coates would hopefully set the World Donut Record. |
|
Dave's
first attempt was excellent. Doing 19 donuts within the allocated
minute. This was a whole lot better than his admitted night previous
attempt of 10.
"i was getting too dizzy after just10 bloody donuts"
he announced! Another two attempts with the crowd roaring both
yielded 19 donuts. This was going to be a little more difficult
than first thought. |
| |
Dave
had to rest for a minute or two between each attempt due to dizzinness
induced by the donut attempts. He attempted both clockwise and
anti-clockwise donuts to see if there were any differences in
road surface, bike control and the effect the spinning was having
on his balance. |
|
| On
the 5th attempt, Dave managed to beat the unofficial record of
20 held by Gary Rothwell. By all accounts, Gary's record remains
unofficial until the paperwork has been submitted. On the night
of Dave's attempt, this had yet to be done so the compere announced
that the paperwork for Dave's successfull attempt would be submitted
the following day. |
|
With
the World Record for donuts now in the bag for Dave, he continued
to provide a small Stunt Show for the crowd, which was restricted
to 15 minutes by the organisers due to the live entertainment
being scheduled to start 20 minutes later. Stoppies, rolling burnouts
and MORE donuts finished the bike entertainment off very nicely.
With the van loaded and parked up, the evening was finished off
sweetly with some excellent music. |
